Already married, Allison and Joel didn’t get the dream wedding photos they so desired the first time around. By complete chance, I was flying to Chicago last September when I heard a voice call my name. I couldn’t believe it was Allison, who I hadn’t seen since high school. She was traveling to Chicago from her home in San Diego, stopping in Dallas to switch planes.
Even more random? We ended up seated next to each other. Total fate! We got to talking and catching up over a few glasses of wine, and Allison expressed her interest in getting dressed up with her Navy husband before his deployment. We picked a weekend in December and I flew out to California for one of the most fun photographic experiences I’ve had.
We started out at Mission Beach, where I had seen a picturesque harbor with sailboats as a backdrop. From there, we headed to beautiful Balboa Park, stopping at various locations with interesting architecture and foliage. After that it was to their place to grab a few photos with Captain, their beloved dog.
Racing against the setting sun, we fought traffic to get to Ocean Beach during the Golden Hour, but everything worked out as planned. I was so glad Allison was fine with getting her dress dirty, since I don’t think we could have prevented it with the high tide. After a gorgeous sunset, we headed to Bo Beau for THE BEST Brussels sprouts appetizer I’ve ever had (seriously, typing this is making me salivate), some wine and a few more photos at one of the couple’s favorite restaurants.
So happy I got this opportunity, and really looking forward to my next trip to the west coast!
